Australian Author Craig Silvey Faces Court on Charges of Child Abuse Material Possession

Renowned Australian author Craig Silvey, recognized as one of the most important figures in Australian literature at the age of 43, appeared in court today on charges of possessing and distributing child abuse materials.

The award-winning Australian author Craig Silvey, whose works are taught as textbooks in schools, was arrested on Monday after a police raid on his home.

CAUGHT IN THE ACT ALLEGEDLY

In a statement released by law enforcement agencies, it was alleged that Silvey was actively communicating with other child abuse perpetrators online and sharing materials at the time of the raid. The author, who appeared in court today, did not make any defense during the initial hearing.

The court decided to release Silvey on bail to be tried without arrest. The next hearing for the famous author will take place on February 10th.

HIS BOOK WAS ADAPTED INTO A MOVIE

Craig Silvey gained international fame, especially in 2017, with his novel “Jasper Jones,” which was also adapted into a movie starring Toni Collette. The book, which won the Book of the Year award and sold over half a million copies, received the prestigious title of “Book of the Year” in Australia and was nominated for many literature awards.

The “Runt” series, which the author recently penned for children and became a bestseller, was also turned into a movie.
